A small team you can actually meet
Capital Learning is a growing roster of licensed teachers. Every tutor on this page has real classroom experience and a clear point of view on how to help kids get unstuck.
For the past decade, I've worked in classrooms across DC, Virginia, and Pennsylvania as a teacher, team lead, and district curriculum developer. Today I teach 5th grade Math in a DC public school. Before that, I taught middle school science, led a 7th grade team at a DC middle school, developed curriculum at the district level, and ran the student curriculum and summer camp for the Andrew L. Hicks Jr. Foundation.
What ties it all together is range. I've taught the same concepts dozens of ways to dozens of students, so I know exactly where kids tend to stall out on fractions, ratios, or equations, and I almost always have another way in. I plan around real data, differentiate for every kind of learner including students with IEP, 504, and ML plans, and I'm relentless about making rigorous content feel within reach.
I hold an M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion (2018), a DC Pre-K–12 administrator license (2025), and teaching licenses in DC, (previously Virginia, and Pennsylvania, too). I'm currently on sabbatical from my doctorate in Education Policy at Drexel.

Start with the data
Before we get started, we ask for your child's i-Ready scores (or whatever diagnostic their school uses). That tells us which skills are solid and which need work, so nobody wastes time guessing.
Anchor to standards
We build every plan around the Common Core standards your child is held to in school. That way our work reinforces what's happening in their classroom instead of competing with it.
Pull from many curriculums
We pull from i-Ready, Eureka Math, and a stack of other proven curriculums to find the explanation and practice that finally makes a concept click.
What a session actually looks like
Sessions run on Google Meet with a shared live workspace (Google Sheets / screen sharing). Here’s the rhythm we use most of the time. Every session is different, and the structure bends to fit your kid.
Hi and recap
We open with a quick check-in and a recap of last week. What stuck, what was confusing, what came up at school.
Set the learning target
We name the goal for today out loud, in plain language. Your kid knows exactly what we’re aiming at.
Teacher-led instruction
I walk through the new concept with worked examples on the shared workspace. Visual, paced, with room for questions.
Student-led practice
Your kid drives. Real problems, connected to grade-level standardized testing, with me as a thinking partner.
Exit ticket
A short check on what stuck, what to revisit next time, and a tiny preview of where we’re headed.

Maybe your kid just needs help with their homework. Through the live Google Sheet or screen sharing, we work through whatever they brought to the session. The five-stage rhythm is a starting point, not a script. Everything is custom.

Tell us about your kid and what they're working on. The form takes a couple of minutes.
We confirm and invoice
We'll reply within a day to lock in the time and match you with the right tutor. Tutoring plans are paid at booking through Stripe Checkout; for consulting or coaching, we'll send a secure Stripe payment link. Your Google Meet link comes with the confirmation once payment is received.
We meet online
Sessions run on Google Meet with a shared workspace. We work through real problems together, side by side.
Simple payment
Payments are processed securely through Stripe (credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay). Tutoring plans are paid at booking; consulting and coaching are quoted during a free intro call and billed via a Stripe payment link.

Teach with Capital Learning Collective
We’re a small, intentional collective of licensed teachers, and we’re growing. If you can run a great session and you love working with kids, we want to make the rest of the job easy.
We’re especially looking for tutors in subjects and grade bands we don’t cover yet, plus teachers interested in consulting or coaching work.
How working with us actually works
Based on a $100/hour session fee. This rate is flat and permanent for the full life of the engagement — no time-based step-downs.
- Paid out on a bi-weekly statement. We handle invoicing, payment collection, and receipts via Stripe.
- Curriculum and lesson design (NGSS, Common Core, Eureka Math, iReady, and more).
- Teaching guides delivered before each session, with student-specific notes.
- Marketing, family intake, scheduling, and billing.
- Brand, platform, and tutor community support.
- Background check completed before your first session.
- Paid as a 1099 contractor. You set your own subjects and availability.
- A 24-month non-circumvention clause: you and a family introduced through the collective agree not to move sessions off-platform during the engagement. Standard industry practice and kept short.
- Either side can end the relationship with two weeks of notice.
